SpARC Recharge Policy and Rates

- Consulting Services
a. Data review, map production, analysis, technical support, and grant writing support will require recharge. SpARC can provide up to four hours of free consultation per fund source (FAU). This time includes meeting, preparation, follow up and technical support.
b. A recharge authorization form must be initiated before SpARC can provide services, even if services are provided free of recharge.
c. If any SpARC consultation services have been received, please credit SpARC in publications and reports. We also request a graphic slide and/or project description so that SpARC can showcase projects on our website and other outreach documents.
d. Hourly subsided rates for UC faculty, students and staff for a GIS Analyst is $50/hour, GIS Technician $28/hour. Hourly rates for GIS Analyst for non‐UC partners is $108/hour, GIS Technician is $57/hour.
2. Portable equipment rental
a. Request for GPS rental requires a written notice of two business days, e‐mail request to email@example.com is preferred. In the event the GPS unit is already rented out, SpARC will provide a calendar of available days the unit(s) are available. A completed recharge authorization form and rental agreement form is required before SpARC can provide services. The rental agreement form includes policy requiring user to pay late fees for unreturned equipment and fees for broken or damaged equipment.
b. Daily rental rate for Trimble GPS units are $50/day. Daily rental for Garmin GPS units are $5/day. This rental fee does not include training on either of these GPS units.
a. Large format plotting and scanning are provided on a recharge basis. Please allow 2 business days for request to be accommodated. A completed recharge authorization is required before SpARC can provide services.
b. Rates for large format plotting are $2.50/sqft for standard paper, $3.00/sqft for glossy paper. Bulk standard prints of 10 or more posters are $2.00/sqft. Standard poster sizes of 24” X 36” are $15 per print for standard paper, $21 per print for glossy and $12 per print for 10 or more posters. Standard poster sizes of 36” X 48” are $30 per print for standard paper, $42 per print for glossy paper and $24 per print for 10 or more posters. Scanning rates are $28/hour with a 30‐minute minimum charge.
a. SpARC develops and offers GIS short courses and workshops for members of the UC Merced community and its partners. Workshops will vary from basic GIS skills to more complex and advanced topics in spatial analysis.
b. UC Rates for a two‐hour workshop per individual are $50, $250 for a group of 10. Rates for a four‐hour workshop per individual are $100, and $500 for a group of 10. Rates for an eight‐hour workshop per individual are $200, and $1000 for a group of 10.
5. ESRI Virtual Training
a. SpARC can issue ESRI training courses to students, faculty and staff. These courses are currently provided free to UC Merced students, faculty and staff.
Facility Use Rules
1. SpARC facility is available for registered UC Merced students, faculty and staff during drop‐in hours, published on the website and by appointment.
a. Users must sign‐in to SpARC each visit. A SpARC user account will be created for each user. A SpARC user account includes access to ESRI Virtual Training Courses and SpARC users will be added to a mailing list, with an opt‐out option.
2. Food and Beverages are permitted, away from computers, printers and GPS equipment.
3. Workshops and events at SpARC will take priority over individual work at SpARC. A calendar of events and workshops will be posted at SpARC and on our website.
4. Users must log‐in using a UC Merced username and password, and log‐out after work has completed at SpARC.
5. Data Storage
a. Data on local computers will be erased after the end of each semester. Data stored on the SpARC network server will be erased at the end of each semester if it has not been stored or managed in a project folder. SpARC can provide data management and back up services for GIS datasets on a recharge basis.
6. Computer problems
a. Any hardware, software, printer or network issue shall be reported to the on‐site SpARC lab manager or lab assistant.
7. Lab Use
a. Lab use is provided to students on a drop‐in basis to support instruction and projects. Students, faculty and staff must register as a SpARC user prior to utilizing SpARC.
